New Delhi: The gang-rape followed by death of 19-year-old Dalit Girl from Hathras, has bought back the horrific memories that of Nirbhaya Case in 2012. A similar incident was reported for the 19-year old when she went to the fields for collecting fodder on 14th September 2020 at 9:00 AM, upon which she was ambushed and attacked by a groupof men from behind. Their first incident of brutality started with strangling the girl with her dupatta, resulting in breaking her spinal cord and leaving her paralysed. She was raped by 4 men in the fields and left brutally injured with tongue slit due to brutal assault during rape.
Upon hearing his sister cry for help, the girls brother ran towards the fields and spotted Sandeep strangling his sister with her dupatta, on seeing her brother approaching, the suspect Sandeep fled the spot. Girls mother found her in unconscious and naked state, prompting her to cover the girl’s body with her dupatta and blood socked clothes. The girls brother approached the police and registered a complaint of assault against Sandeep, as by then they weren’t aware as it what exactly had happened with his sister. The girl’s state had left her mother clueless as well on what had happened with her and why.
The girl was admitted to Aligarh’s JNU hospital for extensive treatment in unconscious state, and she had re-gained conscious on 15th September 2020, but was not in a state to give her statement and express her ordeal. Police tried to take her statement on 20th September 2020, but her condition was critical and she wasn’t in a state of mind to give the statement. Police managed to record a statement on 22nd September 2020 and based on the girl’s version FIR under IPC 376D, physical assault with previous FIR of SC/ST ACT & Section 307 of IPC were attached against the remaining 3 accused. All 3 accused were arrested on 23,25 and 26 September respectively.
As per SP Vikrant Veer of Hathras, no sexual assault has been confirmed either doctors of both Hathras & Aligarh. Also, they didn’t find any forceful sexual attempts marks in the girl’s private parts. As far as the tough slit is concerned, the girl had mentioned in her statement that, her tongue got injured during assault on being crushed between her teeth. Doctors claim, that at the time of her admission to hospital, she didn’t reveal anything about sexual assault as she was in unconscious state, and the first time that Doctors learnt about sexual assault was on 22nd September 2020, when the girl gave statement to police.
Forensic team’sobservation-based investigation is underway, and they would be in a better position to confirm if the girl was gang-raped as mentioned by Dr MF Huda. The girl scummed to her injuries yesterday 29th September 2020, followed by being escorted to cremation ground in the middle of night without her parent’s consent. It is learnt that, her parents and brother had pleaded for her body to be handed over, in order to perform her last rites as per Hindu culture. Unfortunately, the girl’s family ‘s ordeal didn’t end with her death, rather it followed further because the cops denied girl’s family the moral rights of cremating their daughter and instead cremated her in the middle of the night at 2:30 AM without their consent and even bolted them in their house to avoid resistance in cremation process.
Opposition has demanded for strict action to be taken against the cops and administration responsible for the lapse and also demanded Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, resignation over failure in protecting the girl and lapse in investigation of the case.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has formed a 3 member SIT team to probe the matter and has assured that none of the accused would be spared and will be served severe punishment.
